Choice example of this early cob recovered from the Sao Jose Shipwreck. The Sao Jose was a Portuguese slave ship which sank in 1794 near the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa after hitting a rock. The ship was on its way to Brazil with over 400 slaves from Mozambique. Fantastic example of this early and historic cob with superior detail on the shield and reverse cross.
