The July 1, 1780 Connecticut issue was payable in Spanish milled silver dollars by March 1, 1785 with 5% interest. Upon redemption these notes were hole or slash canceled. This 40 Shilling note was the highest denomination of the issue. The front has elaborate borders with what appears to be a cornucopia design at the top and a small state seal with a hand pointing to the left. Printed by Timothy Green II on thin light paper. The reverse features neat angels in the corners of the internal border. Exceptional example with crisp light paper and rich black ink. Incredibly reasonably priced for a problem free uncirculated colonial.
Signers: William Pitkin, John Chester
