The May 10, 1775 issue was the very first issue of Continental currency. This $1 note features an emblem of a weighted bowl on an acanthus plant. This emblem is encircled by the latin motto “DEPRESSA RESURGIT” (Though crushed it recovers). An interesting motto and very fitting for the times. The reverse features nature print of ragweed and 2 willow leaves. Although lower grade, this CC-1 $1 bill is not easy to find and boasts being America’s first paper Continental dollar. Previously a part of the extensive Dr. O’Shaughnessy Continental Collection.
