The May 10, 1775 issue was the very first issue of Continental currency. This $30 note features an emblem of a wreath on a tomb. This emblem is encircled by the latin motto “SI RECTE FACIES” (If you act righteously you will be honored after death). The reverse uniquely features 2 emblems of a strong wind creating waves and a beautiful sun shining on ships at sea. The first emblem was designed by Benjamin Franklin and is encircled by the latin motto “VI CONCITATE” (Driven by force). The second is encircled by the motto “CESSANTE VENTO CONQUIESCEMUS” (When the storm dies down we will rest). The light ink on the reverse appears to be contemporary. Gorgeous AU example of this desirable first issue with crisp paper.
