The May 10, 1775 issue was the first Continental series of colonial currency. The front of this $30 note has an emblem featuring a wreath on a tomb. The Latin motto “SI RECT FACIES” (If you act righteously you will be honored after death) encircles the emblem. The reverse has 2 additional emblems, a strong wind creating waves encircled by the Latin motto “VI CONCITATE” (Driven by force) and the sun shining on sailing ships in a calm sea encircled by the Latin motto “CESSANTE VENTO CONQUISCEMUS” (When the storm dies down we will rest). Absolutely stunning VF example with bright paper, ink, and signatures well deserving of the evergreen sticker from GCC.
Signers: John Mease, Joseph Sims Jr.
