The May 10, 1775 issue was the first Continental series of colonial currency. The front of this $30 note has an emblem featuring a wreath on a tomb. The Latin motto “SI RECT FACIES” (If you act righteously you will be honored after death) encircles the emblem. The reverse has 2 additional emblems, a strong wind creating waves encircled by the Latin motto “VI CONCITATE” (Driven by force) and the sun shining on sailing ships in a calm sea encircled by the Latin motto “CESSANTE VENTO CONQUISCEMUS” (When the storm dies down we will rest). Nice problem free example with strong paper and an original look.
Signers: Thomas Coombe, Ellis Lewis
