The January 14, 1779 issue was passed to act as a redemption for notes of the May 20, 1777 and April 11, 1778 issues due to extensive British counterfeiting. This $55 note is water marked “CONFEDERATION” in 2 lines and new boarder cuts for this issue say “UNITED STATES OF NORTH AMERICA”. This note features a beautiful emblem of a hand holding a balance. This emblem is encircled by the latin motto “FIAT JUSTITIA” (Let justice be done). Printed by Hall and Sellers in red and black ink with nature print of parsley leaf. Absolutely gorgeous example with light paper and rich bicolored ink.
