Comments: “Ink”
The May 10, 1775 issue was the very first issue of Continental currency. Printed by Hall and Sellers on course paper. This $2 note features an emblem of grain being threshed by a flail. This emblem is encircled by the Latin motto “TRIBULATIO DITAT” (Affliction improves it). The reverse features bold nature print of raspberry and 2 filbert leaves of different size. Stunning circulated example of this desirable first issue with a pleasing paper color, strong ink, bright signatures, and high overall eye appeal. Tough $2 denomination which trends much higher than higher denominations from this issue. PMG notes ink, this is “as made” and likely occurred during the printing process. Well deserving of the elusive gold sticker from GCC.
