The May 9, 1776 Continental issue shared the same style as November 29, 1775 and was printed just months before the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Printed by Hall and Sellers on course paper containing mica flake and blue threads. This $2 note features an emblem of grain being threshed by a flail. This emblem is encircled by the latin motto “TRIBULATIO DITAT” (Affliction improves it). The reverse features nature print of raspberry and 2 filbert leaves of different size. Solid VF+ example of this tougher $2 denomination with strong original paper and bold ink and signatures shining through the staining.
