The May 9, 1776 Continental issue shared the same style as November 29, 1775 and was printed just months before the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Printed by Hall and Sellers on course paper containing mica flake and blue threads. This $5 bill features an emblem of a hand that is gathering food and bleeding due to thorn pricks. The latin motto “SUSTINE VEL ABSINE” (Either survive or give up) encircles the emblem. The reverse features bold nature print and the Hall and Sellers hallmark. Fantastic details and color remain, offered at a discount due to the damage
