The November 2, 1776 issue was interestingly proposed to print fractional denominations but this never happened due to the fugio notes providing adequate supply. This $30 note features an emblem of a wreath on a tomb. This emblem is encircled by the latin motto “SI RECTE FACIES” (If you act righteously you will be honored after death). The reverse uniquely features 2 emblems of a strong wind creating waves and a beautiful sun shining on ships at sea. The first emblem was designed by Benjamin Franklin and is encircled by the latin motto “VI CONCITATE” (Driven by force). The second is encircled by the motto “CESSANTE VENTO CONQUIESCEMUS” (When the storm dies down we will rest). Gorgeous problem free dual emblem note, on the scarcer side for Contineental issues. Aditionally, this example bears the signature of Samuel Hillegas. He was the son of Michael Hillegas, the first treasurer of the United States. Samuel was appointed by his father to sign Continental notes at the time. Previously a part of the extensive Dr. O’Shaughnessy Continental Collection.
