This note is a part of the “Baltimore Issue”. This issue was passed by the Continental Congress on February 26, 1777 in Baltimore. The Congress met in Baltimore from December 20, 1776 to February 27, 1777 because Philadelphia was occupied by British forces at the time. This $5 bill features an emblem of a hand that is gathering food and bleeding due to thorn pricks. The latin motto “SUSTINE VEL ABSINE” (Either survive or give up) encircles the emblem. The reverse features bold nature print and the Hall and Sellers hallmark. Gorgeous problem free example with high eye appeal, especially on the reverse.
