The September 26, 1778 issue featured new $50 and $60 denominations. It also marks high inflation in colonial times due to $75,000,000 in bills authorized and the release of these higher denominations. This $20 note features an emblem of a strong wind creating waves at sea. This emblem is encircled by the latin motto “VI CONCITATE” (Driven by force). This emblem was originally designed by Benjamin Franklin. The reverse features nature print of buttercup leaf. Gorgeous example of this sought after $20 denomination. Lovely color on the strong paper. Previously a part of the extensive Dr. O’Shaughnessy Continental Collection.
