The September 26, 1778 issue featured new $50 and $60 denominations. It also marks high inflation in colonial times due to $75,000,000 in bills authorized and the release of these higher denominations. This $50 note features an emblem of a stepped pyramid of 13 levels which represents the unity of the 13 colonies. This emblem is encircled by the latin motto “PERENNIS” (Everlasting).
