The September 26, 1778 issue featured new $50 and $60 denominations. It also marked a time of high inflation in the colonies. $75,000,000 in bills was authorized and the release of these higher denominations provides evidence of this. This $50 note features an emblem of a stepped pyramid of 13 levels a motif representing the unity of the 13 colonies. This emblem is encircled by the Latin motto “PERENNIS” (Everlasting). The reverse features a unique print of arrows. Exceptional XF example with crisp light paper, bold ink, and strong signatures. Eye appeal well deserving of the EPQ designation from PMG and Gold sticker from GCC.
Signers: Joseph Wilson, Robert Cather
