Continental Currency Fr#CC-85CT September 26, 1778 $50 PMG 58 EPQ *Contemporary Counterfeit*

$0.00
Sold Out

The September 26, 1778 issue featured new $50 and $60 denominations. It also marks high inflation in colonial times due to $75,000,000 in bills authorized and the release of these higher denominations. This $50 note features an emblem of a stepped pyramid of 13 levels which represents the unity of the 13 colonies. This emblem is encircled by the latin motto “PERENNIS” (Everlasting). The reverse features a unique print of arrows. Extremely scarce contemporary counterfeit with only 38 graded by PMG. Additionally, this was a very well done example, likely produced by the British with the mission of sinking the American economy. Gorgeous near uncirculated example with bright crisp paper and high eye appeal, well deserving of the EPQ designation from PMG. A historically significant note for any Continental collection.
