Continental Currency Fr#CC-85CT September 26, 1778 $50 PMG AU-55 GCC *Contemporary Counterfeit*

$965.00

The September 26, 1778 issue featured new $50 and $60 denominations. It also marked a time of high inflation in the colonies. $75,000,000 in bills was authorized and the release of these higher denominations provides evidence of this. This $50 note features an emblem of a stepped pyramid of 13 levels a motif representing the unity of the 13 colonies. This emblem is encircled by the Latin motto “PERENNIS” (Everlasting). The reverse features a unique print of arrows. This was a very well done example, likely produced by the British with the mission of sinking the American economy. Exceptional AU+ example with crisp light paper and bold ink. Eye appeal well deserving of the Gold sticker from GCC. Tough to find counterfeits of this quality. A historically significant note for any Continental collection.
