Continental Currency Fr#CC-85DT September 26, 1778 $50 PMG VF-20 *Counterfeit Detector*

$350.00

The September 26, 1778 issue featured new $50 and $60 denominations. It also marked a time of high inflation in the colonies. $75,000,000 in bills was authorized and the release of these higher denominations provides evidence of this. This $50 note features an emblem of a stepped pyramid of 13 levels a motif representing the unity of the 13 colonies. This emblem is encircled by the Latin motto “PERENNIS” (Everlasting). The reverse features a unique print of arrows. This note is a counterfeit detector which would have been used by merchants to compare to suspected counterfeits that they encounter. Incredibly interesting piece and very scarce with only 7 being graded by PMG.
