Sold Out

The September 26, 1778 issue featured new $50 and $60 denominations. It also marks high inflation in colonial times due to $75,000,000 in bills authorized and the release of these higher denominations. This $60 note features an emblem of the Earth. This emblem is encircled by the latin motto “DEUS REGNAT EXULTET TERRA” (God reigns, let the earth rejoice) (From Psalm 97). The reverse features a unique print of an archery bow. Extremely scarce contemporary counterfeit with only 22 graded by PMG. Additionally, this was a very well done example, likely produced by the British with the mission of sinking the American economy. Interestingly, this note is decently circulated which implies that this counterfeit fooled many people as it was passed along. A historically significant note for any Continental collection. Previously a part of the extensive Dr. O’Shaughnessy Continental Collection.
