Continental Currency Fr#CC-90 January 14, 1779 $4 PMG 63 *Exceptional*

$2,150.00

The January 14, 1779 issue was passed to act as a redemption for notes of the May 20, 1777 and April 11, 1778 issues due to extensive British counterfeiting. This $4 note is water marked “UNITED STATES” in 2 lines and new border cuts for this issue say “UNITED STATES OF NORTH AMERICA”. This note features an emblem of a wild boar charging into a spear encircled by the latin motto “AUT MORS AUT VITA DECORA” (Either Death or an honorable life). Absolutely stunning uncirculated example with jumbo margins remaining. Incredibly bold red and black ink that pops against the clean paper. I am surprised that this note did not grade higher. A showcase piece for any high caliber Continental collection.
