The January 14, 1779 issue was passed to act as a redemption for notes of the May 20, 1777 and April 11, 1778 issues due to extensive British counterfeiting. This $50 note is water marked “CONFEDERATION” in 2 lines and new boarder cuts for this issue say “UNITED STATES OF NORTH AMERICA”. This note features an emblem of a stepped pyramid of 13 levels which represents the unity of the 13 colonies encircled by the latin motto “PERENNIS” (Everlasting). Decent mid-grade example.
