The January 14, 1779 issue was passed to act as a redemption for notes of the May 20, 1777 and April 11, 1778 issues due to extensive British counterfeiting. This note is water marked “CONFEDERATION” in 2 lines and new boarder cuts for this issue say “UNITED STATES OF NORTH AMERICA”. This $60 note features an emblem of the Earth, encircled by the latin motto “DEUS REGNAT EXULTET TERRA” (God reigns, let the earth rejoice) (From Psalm 97). The pinholes are only noticed when held up to the light, 4 at the upper center and 1 at middle right. Gorgeous example with crisp paper and bold ink.
