The front of this September 26, 1778 $8 Continental note features an emblem depicting a harp with 13 strings of different sizes, representing the 13 colonies. The emblem is encircled by the Latin motto “MAJORA MINORIBUS CONSONANT” (The large colonies and the small colonies are in harmony). The reverse features particularly bold nature print of 3 sage leaves. This note is a blue counterfeit detector which were used by merchants to compare suspected counterfeits that they encounter. Incredibly interesting piece of history and very rare with only 11 examples in the PMG pop report. Beautiful uncirculated example with crisp paper and bold ink.
