Georgia Colonial Note Fr#GA-48 1773 20s PCGS F-15 *16 Known*

$995.00

The seldom seen 1773 Georgia issue was authorized with the intent to redeem all prior issues and meet expenses of the colony. These bills were receivable for taxes and were usable until late 1776. It is also thought that this issue was used to replace “decayed” bills issued by the General Loan office and to compensate for 73 Pounds of bills that were destroyed in a fire. Not much else is known about this interesting issue printed in a large format in red and black ink with a typeset design. The 20 Shilling was the only known denomination of the issue. Incredibly low survivability with 4,299 Pounds in bills printed and only 16 known to survive today.

Signers: Noble Jones, James E. Powell, William Young, Noble Wimberly Jones, Joseph Clay, Thomas Shruder, Samuel Farley
