La Louisiane (Louisiana) Colonial Note January 1, 1720 Banque Royale 10 Livres PMG 30
La Louisiane was originally claimed by the French and refers to the area covering the Mississippi River Valley. Much of this area was ceded to England in 1763 and the remainder was sold to the United States in 1803 (Louisiana Purchase). This very early 1720 bill was issued by the Royal Bank and backed by the French King. These notes were intended to be spent on American development and were printed on paper watermarked “Billet de Banque” and embossed with the bank’s seal.
