This large size 1779 Massachusetts treasury bond features a vignette of a pine tree encircled by a rattle snake eating its own tail and a small sun. Printed by Nathaniel Hurd on laid paper. The top of the note features a grand gothic title. The bottom states “DEATH TO COUNTERFEIT THIS”. This note is serial numbered 24 and issued 100 pounds on April 26, 1779. Signed by two committee members and the treasurer. High eye appeal piece. Although very similar in style, this large denomination treasury bond is different than the 1779 Lottery Bonds.
