This rare and sought after “Sword in Hand” Massachusetts note was engraved and printed by Paul Revere. A small oval vignette of a ship at a wharf house can be seen on the front with ornate boarders and typeset. The reverse features an American Minuteman carrying a sword in one hand and the “MAGNA CHARTA” in the other. This figure is encircled by the words “ISSUED IN DEFENSE OF AMERICAN LIBERY” and the latin motto “ENSE PETIT PLACIDAM, SUB LIBERTATE, QUIETEM” (by arms he seeks peace with freedom). Overall, this note is a solid example with decent legibility and an important piece of American history.
