Massachusetts Colonial Note Fr#MA-132CT June 20, 1744 30s PMG VF-20 *Unique*

$8,750.00

The notes of the June 20, 1744 Massachusetts Bay issue were printed using altered plates from the January 15, 1741/42 issue. Sharing the same overall style with the date and silver equivalent being changed. The main purpose of this issue was to fund military action in Cape Brenton, Louisburg, and Canadian campaigns. These old tenor bills were redeemable as 45 Shillings old tenor for 1 Spanish Dollar. Printed by Kneeland and Green in gorgeous large format with detailed borders and the English arms at the bottom left. This scarce counterfeit was exposed by colonists after significant circulation with “counterfeit” written in multiple places on the front. It would otherwise be difficult to distinguish this bill as counterfeit without any surviving original examples. This is the only surviving 30 Shilling bill from the 1744 issue, 1/1 unique. Attractive example with light paper and fantastic legibility. Elite example worthy of the advanced collector and a center piece for any colonial collection.

Signers: R. Hale, Samuel Welles, J. Quincy, J. Jeffries (Forgeries)
