This note from the October 18, 1776 Massachusetts issue is commonly referred to as a “Codfish” note, due to the codfish on the upper boarder of the front. The backs of these bills, featuring a pine tree were printed by John Gill, and the more ornate front was engraved and printed by Paul Revere. Of the 5,143 bills originally printed, only 10 are known to survive today. This 1776 issue of the Codfish note is much tougher than the 1778 issue. Strong details remain on this note printed by an American legend. A key addition for any colonial collection.
