The notes of the Massachusetts 1779 issue featured an updated face that was engraved by Paul Revere with a sun with the motto “Rising” beneath. This is a symbol alluding to our nation rising above Britain. The reverse features the pine tree seen in previous codfish issues. Paul Revere printed and engraved the face of this note and the pine tree reverse was printed by Thomas Fleet of Boston. Scarce and highly sought after note printed by an American legend. Of the 9,411 originally printed, only 21 are known to exist today. Fantastic comment free choice XF example with strong paper and printing throughout and neat contemporary annotations on the reverse. Incredibly difficult to find this nice. This example is tied for the top spot in the PMG population report, finest known. A must have for any colonial currency collection.
