New Hampshire Colonial Note Fr#NH-149 November 3, 1775 10s PCGS 15 *Only 2 Known*
This incredibly rare New Hampshire note was printed by Daniel Fowle in 1775. His nephew, Robert Louist Fowle assisted in the printing operation but their partnership was severed due to a difference in political opinion. Robert Louist Fowle was a Tory and was arrested on April 15, 1777 on charges of producing counterfeits of this New Hampshire issue. The House of Representatives ordered that all notes from this issue be redeemed and likely destroyed, a major contributing factor to their rarity. Robert Fowle escaped from prison in August 1777 and fled. Where most surviving higher denomination notes from this issue are counterfeits, this 10 Shilling note is genuine. Lovely legibility with genuine notes normally expressing heavy wear. Incredibly rare, of the 3,600 originally printed this is only 1 of 2 examples known to survive today. Additionally, this note was previously a part of the iconic Eric P. Newman Collection. An elite tier note for any collection.
