New Hampshire Colonial Note Fr#NH-151CT November 3, 1775 30s PMG VF-25 *Fowle Counterfeit*

$695.00

This interesting New Hampshire counterfeit should have been printed by Daniel Fowle in 1775. His nephew, Robert Louist Fowle assisted in the printing operation but their partnership was severed due to a difference in political opinion. Robert Louist Fowle, a Tory, and was arrested on April 15, 1777 on charges of producing counterfeits of this New Hampshire issue, including this 30 Shilling bill. The House of Representatives ordered that all notes from this issue be redeemed to prevent further damage to the colony’s emerging economy. Robert Fowle escaped from prison in August 1777 and fled. It is highly likely that this note was one of Robert Louist Fowle’s counterfeits, adding a perplexing background story to the note. Attractive note for the grade with light paper and strong signatures.
