Comments: “Edge Split at Bottom”
The February 20, 1776 New Jersey issue was printed by Isaac Collins at Burlington on course watermarked paper containing mica flake. The reverse had a new engraved leaf on the reverse rather than the usual nature print. This issue is much scarcer than the March 25, 1776 issue that is commonly seen. Interestingly, some notes signed by John Hart and Samuel How (this example has this signature combo) were stolen during a military raid and circulated without the third signature being added. These notes are almost always seen with 3 signatures. This means there is a possibility that this 2 signature note was one of those stolen in the raid. This note was signed by John Hart, a signer of the declaration of independence. Incredibly piece of tangible history worthy of any collection.
Signers: John Hart*, Samuel How
