$875.00

The notes of the September 2, 1775 issue were payable in Spanish milled silver dollars and printed on thick paper by John Holt. This issue discontinued the warning of death to counterfeiters. There are elaborate borders throughout both sides of the note. On the reverse there is an emblem depicting a beautiful vignette of the 10 commandments with a sword. The emblem is encircled by the Latin motto “LEX REGITARMA TUENTUR” (Law rules, weapons protect). Only 5,000 of these $3 notes were originally printed and 34 are known to survive today with this example being near the top of the population reports. Stunning uncirculated example with a neat gutter fold error in the top border. Very difficult to find New York notes this nice.
