New York Colonial Note Fr#NY-204 August 13, 1776 $5 PMG 25 *Candelabrum*
The bills of the August 13, 1776 New York issue took on the same emblems and style as the March 5, 1776 issue but the death threat to counterfeiters was resumed. The $1 denomination was emitted form this issue in anticipation of $1 Continental coins being minted. This New York note was printed by Samuel Loudon on thick paper. The front has the New York Arms with “Tis Death to counterfeit” beneath. The reverse has an emblem of a 13 armed candelabrum with the latin motto “UNO EODEMQUE IGNI” (With one and the same flame). Decent example of this issue that is normally seen tattered.
Signers: Archibald Currie, Isaac Sebring
