The bills of the August 13, 1776 New York issue took on the same emblems and style as the March 5, 1776 issue but the death threat to counterfeiters was resumed. The $1 denomination was emitted form this issue in anticipation of $1 Continental coins being minted. This New York note was printed by Samuel Loudon on thick paper. The front has the New York Arms with “Tis Death to counterfeit” beneath. This $10 bill has a lovely emblem of an elephant encircled by the Latin motto “PAR VIRIBUS VIRTUS” (Virtue is equal to strength). Nice details remain for the grade on this popular 1776 elephant note.
