This very scarce late issue New York bill was receivable for taxes and redeemable by June 1800. The borders were engraved by Peter R. Maverick and this bill was printed by Samuel Loudon. This issue was plagued by extensive counterfeiting, so it was replaced by the February 8, 1788 issue., making authentic examples such as this one very difficult to find. The front features extensive boarders and the New York State Arms bearing the motto “EXCELSIOR” beneath. Of the 24,000 originally printed, only 9 are known to survive today. This example has been hole cancelled and was previously a part of the iconic Eric P. Newman Collection. A true rarity.
