New York Colonial Note Fr#NY-240 February 20, 1790 3d PMG 55 EPQ *Exceptional*
The Common Council of the Corporation of the City of New York issued these small denomination notes to satisfy the need for “small change” in the city. After numerous quantities of London counterfeits emerged, a call for redemption of these notes occurred by June 1, 1799, redeemed notes were burned. Superior example of this note usually seen in low grades, tough to find this nice. With strong paper and bold ink, this note is well deserving of the EPQ designation from PMG. Scarce bill with only 34 known to exist and this example is near the top of the population report.
