The notes of the August 21, 1775 Hillsborough North Carolina issue were printed with engraved copper plates with ornamental boarders and unusual vignettes. The vignette of this $5 note is Governor Tyron’s Palace at Newbern. Of the only 4,000 of these notes originally printed, only 4 are known to survive today. This is one of the most difficult to find North Carolina issues.
