The April 2, 1776 North Carolina issue is unique in the fact that this issue contains 56 different varieties, the highest number of varieties of and American paper money issue. This $1 note features an interesting vignette of an elaborately engraved scroll with denomination embedded, this is a set of both varieties, one with black and one with white letters. The vignettes of this issue were engraved in copper plates by Gabriel Lewyn, a goldsmith from Baltimore. Scarce and sought after 1776 notes. Of the 10,000 of each variety originally printed, only 5 Black letters and 6 White letters are known to exist today. This listing includes both notes, sold as a set.
