The April 2, 1776 North Carolina issue is unique in the fact that this issue contains 56 different varieties, the highest number of varieties of any American paper money issue. This $4 note features an interesting vignette of an elaborately engraved bee. The vignettes of this issue were engraved in copper plates by Gabriel Lewyn, a goldsmith from Baltimore. Incredibly scarce, of the 10,000 bee notes originally printed only 16 are known to survive today. Nice eye appeal with light paper and bold ink on this desirable 1776 North Carolina note.
