The April 2, 1776 North Carolina issue is unique in the fact that this issue contains 56 different varieties, the highest number of varieties of and American paper money issue. This $8 note features an interesting vignette of an elaborately engraved rooster. The vignettes of this issue were engraved in copper plates by Gabriel Lewyn, a goldsmith from Baltimore. Scarce and sought after 1776 note. Of the 10,000 rooster bills originally printed, only 16 are known to exist today.
