The bills from the August 8, 1778 North Carolina issue were payable in Spanish milled dollars and printed by James Davis on dark course paper. This $1/2 note bears the motto “Behold! A new World”. There was a shortage of these notes due to a smallpox epidemic at the time. Of the 100,000 originally printed, only 23 of these notes are known to exist today. Nice example.
