North Carolina Colonial Note Fr#NC-175 August 8, 1778 $4 PMG 50
The bills from the August 8, 1778 North Carolina issue were payable in Spanish milled dollars and printed by James Davis on dark course paper. This $4 note bears the motto “A Lesson to arbitrary Kings, and wicked Ministers”. There was a shortage of these notes due to a smallpox epidemic at the time. Of the 12,500 originally printed, only 19 of these notes are known to exist today. Nice example with high eye appeal and strong paper. Tough to find in this high of a grade.
Signers: Richard Cogdell, Jesse Cobb
