North Carolina Colonial Note Fr#NC-191a May 10, 1780 $25 PCGS XF-45 PPQ *18 Known*

$350.00

This scarce $25 note from the May 10, 1780 North Carolina issue was printed on thin light paper by James Davis. This bill features ornate borders with various symbols and a printed back. The Latin motto on the lower left reads “Dulce Pro Patria Mori" (It is pleasing to die for one’s country). Interestingly, this issue faced incredible depreciation of 800 for 1 and some depreciated notes remained in circulation into the nineteenth century. Incredibly scarce note with 8,000 originally printed and only 18 known to exist today. Striking XF+ example with light crisp paper and bold ink well deserving of the PPQ designation from PCGS.

Signers: James Coore, J.W. Caron
