North Carolina Colonial Note Fr#NC-192 May 10, 1780 $50 PMG AU-50 GCC Green *Finest Known*

$690.00

This scarce $50 note from the May 10, 1780 North Carolina issue was printed on thin light paper by James Davis. This bill features ornate borders with various symbols and a printed back. The Latin motto on the lower left reads “FUNDAMENTUM MIHI AERE PERENNIUS" (A foundation for me more enduring than bronze). Interestingly, this issue faced incredible depreciation of 800 for 1 and some depreciated notes remained in circulation into the nineteenth century. Incredibly scarce note with 8,000 originally printed and only 17 known to exist today. This striking AU example with clean light paper and bold ink holds the top of the PMG population report, finest known. This quality is fortified by the evergreen sticker from GCC.
