The notes of the March 9, 1754 North Carolina issue had a minimalistic design and various seals. This early 1 Shilling note features a swan vignette. Much scarcer than higher denominations in the series. Although rough, of the 10,000 originally printed only 4 are known to exist today. These low denominations experienced a lot of handling and colonists went to great lengths to repair and extend the life of these notes.
