This early note was printed by Benjamin Franklin and David Hall. On the reverse, “Printed by B. FRANKLIN” can be very clearly read across the bottom and “To Counterfeit is Death” can be read across the top. A leaf nature print is visible on the middle of the reverse. This April 25, 1759 issue is generally more scarce than most other Franklin issues. This 20 Shilling note has 19 examples that are known to survive today, with this one being on the higher end. Very good quality example with superior legibility and paper quality. Additionally, this note bears the signature of Charles Thomson. He was a distinguished American patriot who served as the secretary of the Continental Congress and was the co-designer of the “Great Seal of the United States”.
