Date: May 1, 1760
Denomination: 10 Shillings
Friedberg #: PA-110
State: Pennsylvania
Certification: PMG & GCC
Grade: Very Fine 25, GCC Green
Comments: “Printed by Benjamin Franklin, Paper Pulls”
This early 10 Shilling note was printed by Benjamin Franklin and David Hall. Franklin implemented the British arms on the front rather than Penn arms. 2 crowns can be seen embedded in the text representing 5 Shillings in value. Detailed nature print can be seen on the reverse. Exceptional example with nice signatures and wonderful legibility. “Printed by B. FRANKLIN” can be very clearly seen across the bottom of the reverse with “To Counterfeit is DEATH” on the top. Additionally, this note was signed by Charles Thomson, an American Founding Father, only secretary of the Continental Congress playing a key role in the founding of our nation. Top notch quality for a Franklin note in VF+. Incredibly difficult to find this nice, well deserving of the green sticker from GCC. Very scarce note with 9,900 originally printed and only 11 known to survive today. This VF-25 holds the top spot in the PMG population report, finest known. An elite addition for any colonial collection.
Signers: Charles Thomson, John Ord, Joseph Redman
