The notes of the March 10, 1769 issue are known as “Bettering House Money” authorized by the February 18, 1769 Act for relief and employment of the poor in Philadelphia. The larger denominations, such as this note, are larger in size than lower denominations from the issue. Printed by Hall and Sellers. Of the 20,000 2 Shilling notes originally printed, only 42 examples of this note are known to exist today. Exceptional problem free example with bright paper, signatures, and ink which is almost never seen on this issue, well deserving of the Gold sticker from GCC.
Signers: Stephen Collins, Luke Morris, James Penrose
